      Where there's a will.... 01/22/2012

there's a hafla! I'm tickled pink at the response to my email invite and it looks like we'll have the 8-10 dancer lineup I was hoping for, with a nice student and teacher/pro mix . As soon as I have the all the performer info I'll post the lineup on the Event Calendar page.

Now if I can just decide what *I'm* going to do...less than two weeks until the show and there are three pieces of music currently competing for frontal lobe space at the moment, LOL.

I'm so excited to have the chance to host my first Connecticut hafla! In Chicago it was a simple matter of hitting my email and student lists and in general giving the dance community grapevine a tug, then making sure there was room enough for a couple hundred people LOL.

This feels like a Hail Mary pass out to the dance universe ;-) I have access to a beautiful space and desire to find some kind of dance community connection. I've invited dancers and teachers that I only know from their websites. I confess I had a good 10 seconds of 9th grade flashback panic with my finger hovering over the send button...."these people don't know me from a hole in the ground, why would they want to be in my show?"--eek!

You have the right to remain silent... 01/07/2012

but once you secure the rights to music the sky is the limit! ;-) I have a series of dance tutorials planned for a YouTube channel and can't wait to start filming. Everything is ready, I'm just waiting to get the green light on a direct license. If you know me you know I don't do patient very well, LOL. But no matter how eager I am to start sharing under no circumstances will I violate copyright laws by using music that I don't have the appropriate license/permission to use.

The topic of respect for dancers and our dance form comes up frequently on MED message boards and in conversations. How can I respect myself and this dance if I don't respect the music and the rights of the musicians that create it? Can't happen habibis...no way around it. So please be patient with me, it'll be worth the wait I promise! In the meantime I welcome your suggestions for what you would like to see in an online tutorial

_ Normal 0 Creating this website marks a new chapter for me. It’s been 2 ½ years since moving to Connecticut and leaving behind my beloved Chicagoland dance community and having dance as my full-time occupation and creative force in my life.

It’s been a long and incredibly hard journey but I finally arrived at a crossroad. Say goodbye and make peace with the end of a life chapter… or….see if I have enough to say as a performer and teacher to make a new approach worthwhile.

In the coming weeks I’ll be working on a series of video tutorials (technique, combination and drills) that will be available on the dance student page. Requests are welcome!

I’ve said enough goodbyes. The only way anything happens is to make it happen--time to get moving!
